I am running a 5K for Cancer in memory of my parents and for my family - find out how you can join in right from home...

For a number of years I have contributed to the FIBRE ART FOR A CAUSE fundraising efforts of Virginia Spiegel and special group of friends and artists in the US and Canada. One of my all time most inspirational fibre artists, Virginia has focused her commitment to the American Cancer Society with FIBRE ART auctions online and at the International Quilt Festival with donations from her network of friends. Many "big name" and very generous artists work alongside Ginny to make sure that the very best of the best art is out there and available for auction by collectors who also want to support the fight for Cancer Research and funding.

Last year, my donation brought home the beautiful piece, THE LOCK donated by Linda Colsh of Belgium. It so reminded me of my mother who was a Kidney Cancer survivor... walking home.

Over the past five years, I have added art to my personal collection by participating in Virginia's art sponsored fundraisers.  I invite you to join me this next year, and if not in this event, please make sure that you designate a donation in 2014 to the Canadian (or American) Cancer Society in your town or province. As a survivor, and two parents and a sister who were cancer survivors, I know how important research and advanced knowledge for our personal physicians is...think about participating if you can.

How you too can participate:

Mark your calendar for January 15, 2014 and join me as I run the Fiber 5K to Fight Cancer. OK, I won't actually be jogging around a race course. But I will be joining the fun as Fiberart For A Cause's virtual race kicks off with a goal of donating $5000 directly to the American Cancer Society.

Generous Prize Sponsors for drawings means there will be many winners at the 1K ($1000) mark, 2K ($2000) mark, etc., plus a Grand Prize drawing when we cross the Finish Line.

According to Race Director, Virginia Spiegel, "Fiberart For A Cause likes to have fun while raising money to fight cancer, so, of course, there are going to be more "race" details revealed as January 15 draws closer. 100% of donations are given directly to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause. Fiberart For A Cause has already donated more than $230,000 to the American Cancer Society thanks to the generosity of fiber artists and patrons."
